Her story sounds much like mine. I was in denial of my addiction because I was what she calls a maintenance drinker and not having a devastating rock-bottom incident; which kept me in denial as well as a cycle of guilt. I identified with most of the habits and excuses, like buying wine from different stores. Her story and honest insight will help women from all walks of life, but I found this book to be exceptionally relatable as I am also approaching 50, childless by choice and decided to stop within a good marriage, finally fearful of ruining a good thing. It helped me realize the steps I was taking which could do that in a matter of time. Thank you, Jackie.
Easy read with tons of tips, suggestions and quotes. At times I got misty eyed because I could relate to do much! Worth reading! You may not stop drinking after reading this book however you'll have so many great tools and quotes to reflect on. There is no right time...so start now!!
157 days sober and this book reinforced my journey. I will continue on the elevator of life to the rooftop and embrace the power I have over alcohol. I am taking the road less traveled to live my life without alcohol one day at a time.
This book really needs professional editing. At times I found it hard to read with all the run on sentences. I applaud Elliott's vulnerability in sharing her story; however, much of what she writes comes off as stream of consciousness/long-winded opinions. For obvious reasons I stopped reading when she named a coworker "Rhonda the Rodent." Seriously, wow.
This book was straight to the point and very eye opening. If you or someone else you know is struggling with alcohol addiction I suggest this book. It is also good even if you don't think you are suffering from alcohol addiction, as it helps to evaluate what value alcohol is really bringing to our lives.
Loved this book! I was dreading taking the steps to a sober life and this book was inspiring! Just what I needed.
love this book
I've read about 12 sobriety memoirs, and this one is by far one of my favorites. The author brings suggestions to stay sober other than the AA program. And although the AA program is strong and works for many, there is some pretty sound and encouraging advice on these pages.
