Muhammad H. Rashid is employed by the University of West Florida as Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He also worked as Visiting Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Connecticut, Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at Concordia University (Montreal, Canada), Professor of Electrical Engineering at Purdue University Calumet, and Visiting Professor of Electrical Engineering at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (Saudi Arabia). He has been employed as a design and development engineer with Brush Electrical Machines Ltd. (England, UK), as a research engineer with Lucas Group Research Centre (England, UK), and as a lecturer and head of Control Engineering Department at the Higher Institute of Electronics (in Libya and Malta). Dr. Rashid is actively involved in teaching, researching, and lecturing in electronics, power electronics, and professional ethics. He has published 17 books listed in the US Library of Congress and more than 160 technical papers. His books are adopted as textbooks all over the world. His book Power Electronics has translations in Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, Korean, Italian, Chinese, and Persian, and also the Indian economy edition. He was elected as an IEEE Fellow with the citation “Leadership in power electronics education and contributions to the analysis and design methodologies of solid-state power converters.” Dr. Rashid is the recipient of the 1991 Outstanding Engineer Award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He received the 2002 IEEE Educational Activity Award (EAB), Meritorious Achievement Award in Continuing Education with the following citation “for contributions to the design and delivery of continuing education in power electronics and computer-aided simulation.” He is the recipient of the 2008 IEEE Undergraduate Teaching Award with the citation: “For his distinguished leadership and dedication to quality undergraduate electrical engineering education, motivating students and publication of outstanding textbooks.” Dr. Rashid is currently an ABET program evaluator for electrical and computer engineering, and also for (general) engineering program. To me it is just another over priced college text book. It does cover topics I am interested in, but I think it lacks in establishing some fundamentals and basics. It might be a reference for someone with more experience but they did a terrible job listing items in the index, and I have trouble finding subjects I'm looking for information on quickly. There diagrams are not consistent in labeling currents, which is a problem. I do not always know if a value is not shown because it does not exist, or because they forgot to add it. They also are not consistent in charts and labeling types and characteristics of power devices, which leaves me asking, why? Intentional, space saving, forgot? I hope there is a better book out there, because this one leaves a lot to be desired.

I purchased this book as a required text for a class I am taking. Overall, the material presented in the book is pretty good and clearly communicated. There are many examples to review and practice problems.One complaint is that there are many errors in the example problems and equations. Some exponents are missing or equations written differently on different pages. I would expect these bugs to be worked out long before the 3rd edition. Other than that the book good.The biggest problem I have is with the quality of the binding. I have only used the book for 3 weeks and the binding is already falling apart. Some pages have fallen out and many more are loose. I would definetly recommend getting the hardbound edition unless you never plan to actual use the book.

There is a lot of power electronics books around. It is not my intention to rank this book compared to others, but rather to judge it on how much it was useful to me. After 15 years of graduation and working in different fields, I needed a power electronics book to bring me up to speed to work on some projects. This book has fulfilled its mission. It is a very practical and quite comprehensive book, covering most power electronics topics, including a chapter about renewable energy at the end. It also includes numerous examples, end-of-chapter problems with solutions and PSpice simulations. My only remark is that it has a 'hand book' rather than a 'didactic' style. Nevertheless, the explanations were good enough.

The answers to the practice problems are full of mistakes. The binding is weak and starts to fall apart after a semesters use. The graphs and charts are alright and that's the only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1.

Through Ina Gartnen, I have learned how to make a great chocolat pudding cake, baked eggs, sophisticated cocktails, how to entertain and set a tale. She is a joy to watch on her cooking show. Until this book, Cook Like a Pro (and I have all of her books), she has been a pro, but this time around, the book is filled with usless recipes where even finding the rubarb, the abundance of figs, cekery root, and would need more eggplant than my super-makret stpcks jn eggplant season. Seriously, Ina, would you really make a celery root and chickpea puree for your guests? I'm a seasoned cook, but have no idea what Shaksbuka is. Lastly, I'm not sure I would prepare vanilla roast rubarb with yogurt...Moscato poached fruit? I hesitate to criticize my cooking guru, so I will agree with another review who stated that Ina Garten must not have written this book. If so, I hope she writes aother good one like all the others in the past. Sorry, but it is not a worthwhile book. TRy Basics, Cooking for Jeffery and Paris...Yum

I have followed Ina for YEARS, and she literally has changed the way I cook and also entertain. So, because of how highly I regard her, I was really looking forward to this new book of hers, and to feel inspired again in the kitchen. This book is so weak on every level, I actually came away DEPRESSED after reading through it. Really, Ina? This is all you could come up with? A handful of lousy recipes? We all know that Ina Garten can cook like a pro. But this time out? She certainly didn't write a cookbook like a pro. Awful. And after reading this review of mine? I can't believe for the life of me that it's for a new cookbook by one of my heroes.

Because it’s not original material, what she did was try to teach in this book not just dribble out 80 recipes that people will never cook! I was really impressed with it, it’s better than Cooking for Jeffrey

It is difficult not to like Ina Garten from the personality she projects on her cooking show. She and her husband seem to have made an idyllic life with a gorgeous estate in East Hampton, apartments in New York City and Paris, and many friends understandably willing to converge in their newish “barn” to chow down on some good eats.Ina’s cookbooks are based on a winning formula: easy high caloric recipes that are often winners and are accompanied by a plethora of glorious photographs provided by Quentin Bacon. She has often given credit to the late Anna Pump as a major inspiration and her cookbooks reflect the influence of Anna, Sarah Leah Chase, and The Silver Palate recipes. And that is a good thing. She cooks the way I like to cook and many of her recipes have been often repeated.I own all 11 of her cookbooks and am often asked which one to buy. My answer is always “her first book.” Each successive book was less than the previous and the recipes were increasingly redundant. That is, an ingredient was swiped out and replaced for another in a subsequent book. This was happening much too often. Also, books were given theme titles—Back to Basic, How Easy is That?, Make it Ahead, Cooking for Jeffery, etc.—that seemed to have little to do with the books.The most recent book Cook like a Pro is the weakest of her books. The recipes are uninspiring and the “Pro” theme is lame. Ina doesn’t claim to be preparing you to walk into a restaurant and fit in as a professional cook, however, the pro tips are steps most of us are already taking.For instance, on page 44 is the heading Measure like a Pro with photos on the opposite page of measuring cups and a scale. This is where I would expect her to sing the praises of weighing ingredients vs. using measuring cups, but the photo’s caption simply states “Use a scale to accurately measure weights.” None of her recipes provides weights in addition to measuring by volume.One of the most important steps a professional cook utilizes is mise en place. This refers to the French preparing and assembling all the ingredients prior to cooking or baking. The photograph on page 56 shows some of the ingredients gathered onto a half-sheet pan. The photograph on page 176 with the caption “Prep your ingredients in advance and check to make sure you’ve included every one” captures mise en place. But I wish more of the pro tips had really been that.

I have every one of Ina’s cookbooks. The photography never disappoints, which is why this review gets 2 stars from me. However, the recipes in Cook Like a Pro are uninspired. After her first few cookbooks, which were packed with recipes I wanted to try, the subsequent ones either contained retreads of old recipes or recipes that I wouldn’t make.The only recipe that interested me in this book was the lemon ricotta pancakes with fresh figs. Even with this recipe, I’d sub out the figs for blueberries.Ina appears to have mined all of her recipe ideas in her previous books.

She taught me how to cook, for heaven’s sake! I will say, however, that when taken as a whole, these recipes are a departure from what she’s written about in the past. Maybe that bothers people. Even so, there was a run on Creme Fraiche at my FL grocery today. The woman in dairy was puzzled, and I had to laugh. She said at least 5 people had asked for Creme Fraiche today. Thank you for tonight’s great dinner and tomorrow’s Dijon chicken dinner, Ina.

This was the worst cookbook. I love all of her cookbooks, but the last two have lost me. I almost feel like they were publisher demand books. I would not cook anything from this book. I am returning mine, which says a lot. I would usually keep it for my collection.I would really like to see a book discussing table settings, what one should buy or rent. Ina does the most simple beautiful stuff and it would be nice to see how someone can do it it with a normal budget....example 15-20 dollar floral arrangement. I would also like more simple elegant home meals with easy to find products.

This book has an interesting premise, and I certainly enjoyed the twists and unraveling the mysteries set out in the beginning chapters. But the actual story was somewhat lackluster, and the climax was over in the blink of an eye. For a book that spent such a long time building things up, to have the ending "battle" (if you could even call it that) a total of maybe 10 pages was just very anticlimactic. I finished the chapter and got an overwhelming sense of "Oh. That's all." Perhaps because the villain seemed very one-dimensional?The book continues from there to the final resolution, but the actual ending was incredibly abrupt, leaving much up to the imagination. I don't mind some things being left up to the reader, but a bit of explanation/where do things go from here would have been nice. It felt very rushed, almost like the author was just wanting to get to the end.In addition, throughout the story, it felt like certain characters changed very abruptly. The reader is led to believe they have certain viewpoints, coming from Fee and only Fee's point of view, but there's no insight or conversations as to why those beliefs or characteristics may have changed. I would have liked to see more about the other character's thoughts.In sum, this book was an interesting read, and I don't regret having spent the time reading it, but it wasn't quite what I had been hoping for. The cover art was absolutely gorgeous, though, so kudos to whichever graphic designer made that.

This story was a complex fantasy with interesting characters. It begin with a prologue which sets the stage and has characters we don't see again until much farther into the book. The main story concerns a land suffering some sort of a plague that has killed many of the people including the king and queen, a land that has been decimated, and a missing jewel.The main character in this story is a young girl named Ophelia - Fee to her friends. We meet her as a mischievous seven-year-old (?) who sometimes spontaneously does magic. Magic, however, has been forbidden in her kingdom and it is necessary that she be taught to hide it. Her best friends are ten-year-old Xavi who is the heir to the kingdom and his brother Rye who is Fee's destined husband. They are inseparable friends.However, when the plague comes to the country, Rye is sent away with the other remaining children to other nearby kingdoms, Fee is hidden by the castle's healer Savva and becomes her apprentice, and Xavi is put under the guardianship of Sir Rollins as he learns about the country he'll rule when he turns twenty-one. It has been determined that the country will be clear of infection after ten years.During those ten years, Fee learns from to be a healer and mostly manages to suppress her magic. She spends much of her time trying to find a cure for Xavi's illness. The only contact she has with Rye are the letters that he sends Xavi. Though she writes to him, he never answers.Things come to a head when Xavi's betrothed Quinn comes to the country and Xavi gets sicker. Fee learns that Quinn is poisoning him. In an effort to protect Xavi, they fake his death and hide him in a cave where they spent time as children. Then Rye returns to the country much changed and is convinced the Fee has deliberately poisoned his brother.It gets more complicated from there as Rye and Fee try to find out who poisoned Xavi and what happened to him since he's missing from his hiding place. Fee learns more about her magic and her heritage and the villain who started all of this because she was thwarted in love.Fans of twisty, romantic fantasy will enjoy this story.

This was a fun and quick-read of a fantasy tale. While I feel that some of it needed to be fleshed out and expanded on a little better (as the mystery was good but a bit hard to understand as it unfolded), I had an enjoyable time reading THE ANTIDOTE. The interesting thing here is that I didn't realize it was a standalone (but had really hoped so) as the story unfolded pretty slowly for the first 2/3. It wasn't until a couple of the characters reached a different location and clues started hinting toward the story's major climax did I realize that thee wouldn't be other novels. So I think the pacing was a bit off for me (as was the climactic battle because I'm still unsure of the main villain's motivations and what they did exactly).If you're looking for a quick read, give this title a try.

I was glad to see that Fee and Xavi are friends and never veer from that. all too often it is made romantic and should be left as is. That does not mean there is no romance. The magic was ok. The revelations towards the end were interesting. I was glad this is a stand alone as i felt the story was wrapped up nicely.

I have only just begun to read and take notes using this book, but from what I have read so far it is very comprehensive and has very detailed figures. I attend a prestigious pharmacy school and bought this to supplement course materials. I chose this particular book because it is the most recent edition, and because several of my professors had referenced earlier editions to help compose some of their lecture materials.

Received a black and white copy of the book. When realized other students had color copies (same isbn numbers), I returned for a replacement. The second copy was also black and white.

This is THE BEST available textbook for learning immunology; clear explanations, integrative discussion of the topics, and the authors know how to tell you a story in every chapter, so they begin with the principles and then go into the details. Absolutely recommended!!!

I got the kindle version and have enjoyed using it for my class. No problems at my end.

While this book is probably the most comprehensive immunology textbook in the field, it is overwhelmed with detail--so much so that the "big picture" becomes obscure. Whenever a pathway is presented, the authors list the names of nearly all the intermediate proteins/enzymes involved, even if their functions are of little relevance OR are currently unknown. For many students, these details are irrelevant and end up confusing them more than enriching their understanding of the material; if, for some reason, a particular reader seeks additional detail on a particular topic, they can easily obtain the details by reading the references that are cited at the end of the chapter. Additionally, the review questions at the end of each chapter are very simplistic (although this is not a huge factor in my evaluation).

This is an excellent texbook of immunology - I bought it in both printed and electronic editions. I have to admit it is a dense reading, but certainly worth it!

Janeway has the best figures and charts of any immunology textbook.

Excellent textbook for studying basic immunology for the ambitious undergraduate student, normal graduate student, and those who want to brush up on their (ahem) incomplete knowledge. Nice cartoon schematics.
