I use to be a licensed sign language interpreter. My kids' friends keep asking me how to sign things and I am happy to tell them. So it was "secret reader day" at my son's kindergarten class and thought I would bring in a book where they could learn sign language. As I researched kid books with ASL, none of the reviews or descriptions really stated if they provided a story vs a reference guide. I bought this one and a few others and found that all the ones I purchased including this one provide a reference. If you are looking for a storybook with signs, this isn't for you. The references are good. Some may be hard to understand if you do not know sign language. My son will try the signs and then ask me if he is doing it correctly. It is educational but I was hoping for a bit of a storyline with it. Even a few words on each page. The best part about the book is that it provides a poster size alphabet reference guide.I am purchasing a few of these for Christmas gifts for my son's friends.

I was wanting more freezer prep and this is regular recipes with a few suggestions on freezing.

Purchased as my husband and I are trying to pre-prepare meals to help with costs, and eat a little more health-consciously, and to try a few things out to make ahead and freeze once our life is consumed with taking care of a new born. The basic recipes are pretty good and can be tweaked a little if you need depending on taste and preference. Has been really helpful for doing lunches for the week, or meals with some left overs. There's only two of us so we find that we are able to get a couple of meals from these usually.

I love every Taste of Home cookbook that I purchased!! The recipes are easy to follow and the food is delicious!!!

I deeply appreciated this work that teases out key distinctions between the Bible and Qur'an and the doctrines that result. It leaves me with deeper understanding and respect for each of the Scriptures and their interpreters, and above all a worshipful awe over the self-giving nature of God in Jesus Christ.

Dr. Lodahl's book does a great job "peeling the layers of the onion" of the Qu'ran. Why did Muhammad introduce subtleties and nuances not found in the Biblical text? Lodahl brilliantly surveyed Rabbinical commentary from the first few centuries AD and even some of the gnostic gospels. Their influence on the Qu'ran cannot be understated.What is even more awesome, however, is that Lodahl is respectful through the entire book. he is always gentle when dealing with disagreements, and he always tried to preach peace (even though our doctrines really are irreconcilable).I highly recommend the book for anyone with an open mind who is interested in understanding more of the Qu'ran's theological foundation.

The author writes in a very deft way that draws parallels and comparisons between the two cultures. It is enlightening and very informative, giving depth and understanding for the readers.

Book Review for Michael Lodahl, Claiming Abraham: Reading Bible and Qur'an Side by Side, Brazos Press, 2010 by Dr. Walter Ziffer, a.k.a. "Religious Skeptic."{read my other reviews and publications) Is it possible to claim genuine revelatory status for the Qur'an, the Holy book of Islam, a book claiming to present the final and ultimate revelation of Allah, the Muslims' and the world's only and unique God? By reading a few Qur'anic and Biblical texts side by side, Michael Lodahl attempts to establish areas of theological agreement between the two, an attempt which in this reviewer's opinion, is doomed from the beginning. So, for instance, where orthodox Christianity affirms that Jesus is the Son of God, Islam negates this. For Muslims Jesus is one among other prophets and strictly human. No wonder then that the Qur'an invariably refers to Jesus as "the son of Mary" making it abundantly clear that he is the son of a human mother and not the son of Allah, "The God." Interestingly, Lodahl never makes this particular observation. This issue alone illustrates the unbridgeable chasm that separates Christianity from Islam. To find some kind of cogent harmonization between these two views is impossible and even the cleverest theological mental gymnastics cannot succeed. It is precisely here that my critique of Lodahl is the strongest: his mental gymnastics intended to establish some commonalities, some common theological points of contact between the two faiths, simply do not pan out. As far as his treatment of the Hebrew Bible texts in this project is concerned, I find that he gives Judaism relatively short thrift when compared to his treatment of Christianity-related texts. Despite this shortcoming, his comparisons of the Genesis texts dealing with Abraham and Noah and parallel texts in the Qur'an are well done. Also his choice of Midrash which, in modified form appears in the Qur'an here and there, is well taken. Overdone, in my opinion, is, what may not have been intended as Christian apologetics but which, undeniably, comes across as such. The author expresses quite cogently what scholars before him have seen as the most probable reasons for the Qur'an's usage of Jewish and Christian biblical and post-biblical materials, namely Muhammad's contacts with Jews and Christians in Medina. It is more than likely that these folk never or no longer knew the canonical versions of the material but carried with them modified ones which, because of their oral transmission over several centuries, had eventually become popular "street versions" of the texts but accepted as the genuine stuff. There are a good many contact points between Qur'an on the one hand and Talmud and Midrash on the other hand, with respect to Qur'anic alleged Jewish "unjust and degrading" accusations of Mary and to Gnostic-like-related statements with regard to Jesus' alleged unreal death on the cross. A longer treatment of these contact points between Qur'an and Rabbinic literature would, I think, have been more profitable than the author's long dissertations on Christology. In the end let me just say that the major differences between Qur'an and Jewish and Christian Bibles resist harmonization because both the Jewish Bible and the New Testament are essentially libraries of books, written by a number of different human authors over, in the first case, several centuries and in the latter case, several decades, while the Qur'an claims to be the direct, un-filtered and unadulterated, word of Allah, conveyed directly to the one person of Muhammad, the seal of the prophets, by the angel Gabriel.

Every time I've read through the Qur'an, some of the stories seemed just bizarre and nonsensical. Lodahl's book gives me some understanding of why the Quranic stories are so different from their Biblical counterparts: in many cases, Mohammad was not basing his stories on the Biblical accounts at all, but rather on later Jewish & Christian interpretive developments which came about either because these interpreters didn't feel comfortable with the anthropomorphic God presented in Scripture, or because they couldn't resist elaborating and embellishing the Biblical accounts with details that, for whatever reason, the original writers didn't include. But this book isn't just about the Qur'an; by looking carefully at how the Jewish & Christian were interpreting Scripture prior to and during the time of Mohammad, Lodahl raises some excellent questions for Bible readers today. Many modern-day Christians unknowingly hold views of God that seem more like the Qur'anic portrait than the biblical portrait. Reading this book can help you regain a more authentically biblical view of God.

I'm kinda offended that the book doesn't include the Mosrite guitar--especially The Ventures Model Mosrite. From the '60s to this day, The Ventures remain popular. These guitars now sell for $4000-$6000 on eBay and retail. THE PREMISE of this book is stated in the amazon description: "In this spectacular full-color deluxe volume, Guitar Aficionado magazine--today's preeminent luxury guitar publication--presents THE WORLD'S MOST EPIC GUITARS, the stories behind them, and the people who own them." (And note that it is presented by "Guitar Aficionado Magazine", notably NOT entitled "Famous Guitar Owners Magazine".).UPDATE: The title of the book is "The Most Famous, Rare, and Valuable Guitars in the World". To not include a guitar that is revered, considered a collector's item, and sells for $4000-$5000 is a serious failure of this book and so it deserves ONE STAR. This book is beautiful! Well written with stunning photographs of some of the iconic guitars of our time. I bought it as a Christmaspresent for my nephew who is learning to play and is constantly looking at guitars on his computer... I can't wait to see his facewhen he gets it. Not to nitpick but what is up with the section on James Hetfield? There are two pages of text devoted to hislove of custom automobiles and barely any mention of the guitars on display in the book. I for one would have loved to hearthe story behind the guitars. Other than that, I would recommend this book to anyone who loves the six-string!

This book has beautiful photographs and good narrative discussing each guitar. It is of high quality, well put together and has gold leaf on the page edges which adds to it's nice design. I bought this for my husband and he loves it. This book is great for any guitar lover and would look great on a coffee table.

Bought for a client for holiday gift. He loved it. Professional man who loves music and plays in clubs. When it arrived, the cover was marked with black marks. I was able to get them off with some cleaner but it was annoying to receive a dirty item.

It is very well produced. It's not five star because some of the guitar collections, in the beginning of the book, have been featured in the magazine already. Feel this is a bit of a 'cheat' since the recipient has already read mags cover to cover and keeps them all. Other than that, certainly worth the price.

What could possibly go wrong? The goofy fun begins as the unexpected sounds of an owl's "whoo-whoo-whoo" and a dove's "coo-coo-coo" rile up the sleepy campers. Mice run by and mosquitoes buzz, while lumps appear under the bear's sleeping bag and frogs spring up in it. Then, the seven would-be sleepyheads have a bad case of the itches and twitches. When it starts to thunder and rain, the outing becomes a washout, and they all scurry into a cabin. After saying goodnight to everything and everyone, the last goodnight is saved for the friends' tighty-whities. The final spread features Bear asleep while a bright, happy moon (wearing undies, of course) gazes down upon him. Children will fall asleep with smiles on their faces from this silly bedtime story. Bear and his friends are illustrated as simple, colorful critters with oversize eyes. Readers can touch a pair of puffy underwear worn by Bear, which is embedded on the front cover. Reading book reviews when I ran across this title. Harriet Ziefert alone grabs my attention as I'm a children's librarian. My grandson was going on a special camping trip with his parents (and not his little sister), and I had to get this to him before he went camping -- I imagine he watched for animals in underwear in the woods he hiked that weekend. Spot-on text; padded underwear on the book cover; appealing illustrations and story. A 5-star triple-threat book for preschoolers. The book binding could be better for library use, but I will take my chances and let the book circulate as long as it lasts. Some stories are worth that effort!

One of the very first books my son really loved was "Goodnight Moon", so this book was a perfect find when we started potty training him. He will sit down and "read" the book to us (we've read it so much he's memorized most of it), and we'll sometimes catch him saying, "OUCH! Bug in the eye!" If your family enjoyed "Goodnight Moon", you'll love this one!

My 3 year old really liked this book. We read this for a good 6 months. Liked the pictures, the text was fun, and liked that they're talking about underwear since we were also going through potty training. We learned to say goodnight to his underwear each evening :).

My son LOVES this book. I have read it so many times, I think I have it memorized. It's cute and silly.

My daughter loves these books! We use these to help her learn to read.

A funny version of other goodnight books.

Sweet. My nephew loves it. Has a tighty-whitey under pant on the bear. OMGEEEE!

The book itself is a cute idea. My son found it sort of amusing. I personally loved the illustrations the best. It doesn't make me want to run out and get the rest of the Bear in Underwear books though.
