However, if you want real information from people who know what they are talking about THIS IS THE SOURCE TO GO TO. I have bought several other works before. They have meanwhile been donated to the recycling bin. Don't waste your money on books that no decent publisher would publish and that are giving you blabla in font 16 on 100 pages. These guys can be trusted and it is no surprise that Harvard University Press thought so too. (Full disclosure: I don't know the authors and I am not working in any way for HarvardUP. I am a law professor, however, and I hate to spend my money and shelf space on books by wannabe experts that are merely riding a wave by quickly putting together some platitudes about a topic many people are seeking more information on.)

I purchased this looking for a deeper legal understanding of blockchains. For the first 170 pages, this read more like Nathaniel Popper's _Digital Gold_, giving the historical narrative of cryptocurrencies, and explaining what the blockchain is, and why it exists. If you ware looking for a book on the regulatory considerations in defending your blockchain product from the SEC and state corporation commissions, this book doesn't really get into that.

The book touches on a broad range of themes relating to the block chain technology and, as such, is a useful introduction to the topic. It also provides a compendium of media sources and a few journal articles (mostly relating to law). However, you have to look elsewhere to get real insights into what blockchain can or cannot do. This is because the authors do not explain precisely what blockchain is and how it’s different from more traditional ledger technologies. Their descriptions of blockchain applications are rather superficial, and often read like a cut-and-paste job. They also take at face value the claims of blockchain’s capabilities. Other than pointing out some of the privacy and legal issues, the authors don’t evaluate the value added of blockchain applications. The authors cite a number of initiatives and projects and fail to mention that there are few successful blockchain commercial applications. Truth is, most applications use blockchain for marketing reasons, just like in the dot com bubble days, companies would add dot com to their names so their stock price would go up.

Great book! This is the most comprehensive and best-written publication on the legal dimension of blockchain to date. Incredibly well researched with lots of attention to detail and nuance. Definitely worth reading.

Refreshingly, it covers both traditional and Bayesian approach to regression modeling. Even though it is advertised as a reference for insurance professionals, the material covered applies to virtually any area of predictive analytics, including healthcare, market research, reliability and fraud analysis. Given its value to the practitioner, it is definitely a worthy purchase. I am looking forward to Volume II.

It is a gooD book introducinG many modern models and aproaches to everdyday problem of someone involved with insurance industries, they are self contained within each chapter so in case you need to read any particular approach to problem there is no problem, explanations are clear, do not expect something easy to understand because o this, the content is at a high mathematical level, but most of the techniques involve applications through software, especially R , so it is a good book on it's own

I hope you have better things to do with your life than reading this dreadfully organized book of boredom and pedantic nitty-grittiness.

Predictive modeling has become a hot topic in light of the new era of Big Data that is emerging. It occupies a unique position at the intersection of traditional statistical methods and machine learning algorithms. Practitioners of the art of model-building can benefit from the knowledge base provided by both disciplines. This excellent compendium focuses mainly on the statistical side of the equation. It offers comprehensive coverage of the relevant statistical techniques and can serve as a valuable reference and resource. The editors should be commended for the high quality of both the content and writing maintained throughout.Each chapter is almost a stand-alone mini-textbook on a particular method, and is introduced by a brief and informative summary. Each method is illustrated with well-developed insurance-related applications and R code for implementing the analyses. The presentation is sometimes at a fairly high mathematical level, but remains firmly moored to practical applications. Although the context is actuarial science, it may well be of interest to a wider audience.Perhaps the editors can be persuaded to undertake an equally impressive volume devoted to the machine-learning side of predictive modeling. Personally, I would like to see chapters dealing with various popular machine-learning techniques such as CART, Lasso, neural nets, genetic algorithms, KNN etc. Chapters on such supervised learning techniques would complement the excellent chapter by Louise Francis on unsupervised learning in the current volume. In any case, I look forward to the second planned companion volume that will present a wide range of case studies on actual projects.

I bought both the Kindle version and the hard cover. Below are my comments:Kindle version is difficult to follow since a lot of the mathematical notations show up in bigger fonts and in picture format than actual text. -- strongly not recommend buying the kindle versionThe book was written by multiple authors split up by chapter. Each chapter has examples. About 2/3 of the chapters either have no data or have dataset posted but without the R code to supplement it. When contacting authors for the R code for chapter examples, most of them are reluctant to share. Therefore, this book is not as useful as it seems.

Little Miss History takes us on a tour of the Ford Theater where John Wiles Booth assassinated President Abraham Lincoln. She gives a brief background of the theater mixing photos and illustrations for a wonderful effect. She explains the terrible occasion of it's infamy and I learned that congress shut the theater down after Lincoln was killed. It was reopened as a museum. I love the way little Miss History dramatically reacts to the events on each page, from the horror of the Civil War to the tragedy of Lincoln's death. As much can be learned from the illustrations as from the actual text.Mojica always includes some fact that is sure to amaze her reader. The tower of books written about Abraham Lincoln in the Learning Center for Education and Leadership is astonishing.As always, Mojica's book would be an excellent addition to any school library or classroom or as a gift for a child who enjoys history. However, as a Canadian who is not up on all American history, I would like to know whatever happened to John Wilkins Booth.

I can't tell you how impressed I am with author, Barbara Ann Mojica, and the notable series she has written for children.What a clever way for children to learn and grasp history! This book is required reading for anyone studying the Tibetan Bardo tradition. Professor Cuevas exposes the prejudices of some revered authors on the subject, including pioneer Evans Wentz, who Cuevas points out gave the work its misleading name. As other highly personalized interpretations followed from Tim Leary's The Psychedelic Experience to E.J. Gold's The American Book of the Dead, little attention was given to the actual historical context of these ideas. Cuevas digs deeply into the available records finding links between Bon and Buddhist traditions that produced not one but many works on the bardo. Many of the key ideas westerners associate with the bardo writings are traced back to their source in Hindu tradition. Cuevas takes time to acquaint the reader with neglected facets of these teachings from their earliest form to nearly forgotten elaborations revealing an until now lost world of rich and varied contributions.

I just finished this book ❤️❤️❤️❤️Very well written and such an easy read!!! I am NOT a reader, but couldn’t seem to put this gem down! This book includes simple ways to transform our thoughts and actions to help spread kindness and live a more fulfilling life!

The pages on the side of the book are rough and never got the final finish cut.

This is a pleasant, conversational read that will make you re-think and re-frame how you treat others and (perhaps most importantly) yourself. I like the empowering, actionable steps the book provides. I especially enjoyed the “active listening” part and have been attempting this in real life (easier read than done!). The content feels timely given the current state of the world. If you enjoy books by Brene Brown and Alice Miller, this book is for you!

As a nutrition student, this is not helpful. It is 90% biology based and 10% nutrition. Furthermore, I was taught that when doing research to use material only five years old. When looking at the references from each chapter I noticed that about half of the sources were from 2000 or earlier. Some of her references are from the 1940s. On page 314 it states, "In the United States, the prevalence rates for iron-deficiency anemia were recently reported in NHANES III (1988-1994)..." The 1990s is NOT recent. Unfortunately, her information is so outdated, that I don't find it reliable.

It provides information that individuals as myself who are 50 or above need to be aware of on how our bodies are in decline and need to adjust to nutrition concerns.

Each subject had plenty of research sources to reinforce the validity of presented topic. Each chapter flows. Having been in the geriatric field for several years myself, I can say that this author is a master of this field of study.

Extremely comprehensive but it is a difficult read. I feel I would get more out of it if it summarized the point instead of discussing study details

I gave this book a 3 start because it is filled with relevant information regarding LTC nutritional standards of care. However, if you are buying this book to get CEP, as someone wrote under another review, be aware that the book does not include the test or the option to reclaim CPEs. I guess one had to buy a separate test from another website that selll just the test for more money that the book itself!

Great book at less then half the price of other ones I've found. I got a great deal on the 30 credit test that goes with the book from another company thar wanted $149.00 for the book. Don't think you could get 30 credits cheaper any place else.

No problems getting the book and its in great condition. The most affordable option I could find as well
