My journey toward a holistic approach to mind and health wasn't a choice. I was forced into it when I woke up one morning to extreme inflammation and symptoms that doctors said were textbook for a herniated disc in my neck. However no matter how many tests I took, and how hard they looked, doctors found nothing wrong with me. They had no explanation for the severity of my symptoms, or even why I had them at all. At first I was upset. They were doctors. Shouldn't they have the answers? And then, by chance, I stumbled across "structural integration", and a practitioner who was an herbalist, and deeply rooted in the mind/body connection.It was then, in steps, that I came to understand how profound of an effect my chronic depression, and then extreme anxiety had had on my body. I got this book because I was specifically interested in the chapter on inflammation, and the body's reaction to stress. What I found, however, was the most thorough book I've ever read on the physical proof behind an unhealthy diet and mind.My road away from anxiety, toward health and wellness, has been long and hard, and it's still in progress. I've been targeting books on anxiety, diet, and meditation for months now, but this book offered me something I felt I'd been missing. The why's of what I'm doing. And it also put a face and a name to what I've otherwise been struggling to define. What I'm doing, where I'm trying to go, what is my ultimate outcome? I've KNOWN what it is for a long time, but defining clearly has been difficult. But today, with this book, I found my definition:"If you pay attention, there are many moments when you feel safe and secure; life looks beautiful; the mind is quiet and calm; you feel free of regret and worries; the past brings no bad memories; you find it easy to accept and appreciate your life and the people in it; an inner joy bubbles up; or you somehow feel that a higher presence exists and enfolds you."THAT is it! That's the definition I've been missing. The previously undefined goal I'm moving toward. I have long been working on many of the concepts or changes found in this book, but it brought them together in a way I found entirely enlightening and rewarding, and I also feel as if it will have a profound impact on my life moving forward!!!

If you are a Chopra fan and have followed his other books and lectures, this will certainly be a rewarding read. The first part of the book is very practical about issues of nutrition, diet, reducing inflammation in the body, stress, aging gracefully, and mind-body coordination, while the second two parts of the book delve into conscious evolution and what in many cultures has been called “peak experiences” or the flow — or what we know as effortless spontaneity, or transcendence (heading into the spiritual realm). It is the journey into the soul and spirit where Chopra shines through, and where I think the reader will find the core of it.In all, an interesting and enlightening book by Chopra, which any fan will like immensely.

I've always enjoyed Deepak Chopra's books. but this one was especially helpful.I spent last year in the hospital through ER three different times. I have Afib and other heart related issues.I appreciate Dr. Chopra's holistic approach to healing. Our western medicine leaves much to be desired.his book is well researched and yet written so the layman can benefit from the studies done.health does not have to be a complicated matter. and it gave me courage to take control of my own.I recommend this book to anyone who wishes to make common sense and a real doctor's guide to their own body a combined plan for optimal health!

I love the focus on the current state of knowledge around healthy processes. Learning to burn fat and avoiding sugar. Also adding an entire section to discuss mental health. I really enjoyed this book.

i love deepak and rudy but this book was very disappointing, there was nothing new in this book from his past books. there is just so many ways to say "live consciously , our beliefs and daily experiences effect our health". me and my aunt both read so much deepak and she felt the same way, very disappointed. if you have never read a book by deepak then you might find it interesting, but if you have read super gene or super brain, or eaven deepaks older books about healing its just the same ol stuff. many times i would come to a paragraph where they would explain a study or topic that i already knew and have heard many times.they are both great drs but if you are fans of them save your money, i dont think i will buy another book from either of the authors unless the topic is about something radically different

I’m relatively new to Deepak Chopra and I was afraid it would be a lot of yogi-ish hocus pocus. But I found it very readable and affirmed what I already thought but articulated more beautifully, more completely, and more clearly than I ever could. And it is very logical and scientific. The study about Marge made me think he was speaking to me directly. Brilliant.

Lots of good information--and I love the plan at the end of the book, with a list of lifestyle improvements to choose from for each day of the week.

A great book that blurs the lines between medical science and mindfulness. Our body and mind are one and the same, and this book proves how we need to start living with that notion everyday in order to achieve healthy and happy longevity.
